Motion in Product Design

Motion is often underestimated in product design. When used with intent, it guides attention, makes interactions clearer, and helps flows feel faster and more natural. Even in subtle ways, it builds brand connection and strengthens engagement over time. Below are select examples of how I’ve applied motion across product experiences.

App Intro & Brand Loaders

I designed and animated the wave-inspired loader that replaced the intro logo used across 80+ areas of the app, from splash screens to pull-to-refresh states. The animation was implemented seamlessly on both iOS and Android, ensuring consistency without disruption. I also created a tri-brand version for Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, and Silversea to reduce confusion during single sign-on, applying the same wavey motion style to unify the experience across brands.

MicroInteractions

I explored microinteractions that replaced static or generic states with clearer and more engaging feedback. For booking confirmations, I turned a simple static “success” screen into a celebratory moment with confetti, making the experience more memorable. For error states, I replaced the reused wave loader with purposeful iconography to guide and inform users more quickly. These animations added clarity and delight without disrupting the flow.

Extended Page Loaders

I created an extended set of full-page loaders for gated moments where guests needed to wait. These animations were designed to reduce perceived load times while reinforcing a calm, brand-aligned tone. The explorations ranged from subtle fades to morphing effects, with the goal of making these framing moments feel smoother and less disruptive.

Avocado Mascot

I proposed and developed a brand mascot to replace the stock images previously used for intensity levels in onboarding. Working with an illustrator, I created a flexible avocado character and animated it for key screens, from celebrating daily calorie goals to softening error states like 404 pages. The mascot quickly became a success with users and leadership and has since grown into a core brand asset used across the app.

Onboarding

Animations were used at the start of onboarding to highlight the app’s core features like meal tracking and activity logging. They broke up heavy text explanations, making the introduction feel lighter, clearer, and easier to follow.
